Captain's Cottage, Mixtow, CornwallKits House was built around 1805 and is in a south facing position beside Mixtow Pill which is about half a mile upstream from Bodinnick village, on the eastern bank of Fowey harbour. The beautiful coves of Lantic and Lansallos Bays are around 2 miles away. Made famous by author Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, Kits House was the chosen home of Mr Fogo, the hero of his most famous romance "The Astonishing History of Troy Town” and there are connections with Kenneth Grahame, author of “The Wind in the WiIlows", who was a frequent visitor.

Captain's Cottage is a self-contained wing of Kits House, which was added in 1847. The ground floor has been opened out into a spacious, sunny living room with a comfortable sitting and dining area, a Villager wood-burning stove, television and DVD. The newly fitted kitchen is well equipped with a double oven, grill and ceramic hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. The room has exceptional light from the south and west with three large arched sashes and French windows opening onto the riverside terrace.  The terrace has a table and chairs and room to barbecue beside the water.

Upstairs is the "Captain's bedroom" with painted pitch pine planked wooden walls and oak joinery, enjoying a wonderful view down the river.  This has a five foot double and a single bed and its own washbasin.  The second bedroom has two single beds.  There is a large bathroom with a bath with a hand held shower, a separate large shower cubicle, toilet and washbasin.  Downstairs there is an additional toilet.

The wood-burning stove provides central heating.  Electricity and logs are included in the rent.  There is a telephone for incoming calls only. In the outside lobby and shared with the two Lofts, is a washing machine. There is ample parking, a riverside terrace and a summerhouse.  All bed linen is supplied and a cot and high chair are available.

Fowey is less than a mile by boat or two miles by road via the Bodinnick Ferry. The nearest pub is the Old Ferry Inn at Bodinnick.

A dinghy from a local boatyard can usually be hired and delivered to this property.  Please ask for details when booking as availability  is limited.
